General Power: An Arizona History
What better way to become a battery expert in the desert heat than to live through “the heat of it all”?
With over 60 years of family history in Arizona, General Power knows batteries!
Starting out in the 1940’s as Harbour Tires, in Tucson, AZ, and selling Trojan batteries as a distributor – General Power became a “rebuild battery shop” in Phoenix, AZ by the 1950’s, which eventually expanded into a full-line battery manufacturer throughout the 1960’s. Then – as Power King, Ltd – we merged with a national competitor (General Battery Corp.) in the 1970’s and finally became known as General Power in 1979. General Power then designated Tucson as its central headquarters in multi-state distributing operations for the Rocky Mountain region, the Midwest, and the West.
Over 20 competitors have come and gone, but General Power endured the tough conditions that the others could not. One reason for our ongoing success is the lessons learned during our manufacturing years, while producing batteries that could perform longer in Arizona.
This is where General Power gained a unique perspective in recognizing which products are made with quality manufacturing procedures that can outlast the extreme desert heat!
Today, dozens of national and international battery manufacturers are scrutinized by General Power, as they are tested for their ability to make the best batteries – in SLI, Deep-Cycle, AGM, and Rugged-Duty specialty applications – for the future.
